Fostering

Fostering is by far the biggest difference you can make in the life of a rescue dog. The foster parents are the first taste of love most of these dogs have ever had. Our rescue is 100% run on a foster network, we have no central facility. This means that we can only save as many dogs as we can house at any given time. Because of this, we are always on the look out for great new fosters to join our team! If you think you have what it takes to coach these sweet babies through Spring Training, fill out an application today and one our scouts will contact you!

Do you own or rent your home?

Briefly describe your level of experience with dogs.

Do you have a fully fenced in yard?

Many of our mill dogs have never seen grass, but are also flight risks, so it's important that they have access to a secure space to learn how to be a dog.

Do you have reliable transportation?

We try as much as we can to do all the heavy lifting and take care of all the transportation, but it is helpful if you're able to bring your fosters to and from appointments.

Are there children in the home? If so, what ages?

Safety is always our number one goal, so we will evaluate each dog that comes to us to find the right fight for everyone.

What pets do you currently have?

Our director likes to say the foster siblings do most of the work. Mill dogs learn the best from watching happy house pets be happy house pets.

Are you ready to learn?

There a lot more to fostering than feeding and cleaning. We are looking for foster parents willing to learn about how special mill dogs are and the best ways to help them. Some of it can be counterintuitive, so adaptability is a must!

Do you agree to follow the rules?

We ask that our foster families sign a foster contract, just so everyone stays on the same page and knows what is expected. Do you agree to follow an agreed upon contract or let us know if you are struggling with fostering?

Are you ready to love?

What these dogs need most is love. While that sounds easy, it isn't always, and it can be even harder to say good-bye when you do. While foster fails do happen (and we encourage them!) you will most likely have your foster for a short time and then it will be time to send them to their homes. It can be tough, but if you've got it in you, there is no more rewarding experience than giving these dogs and families their happily ever after.

We take every dog we can, regardless of health. Many times what they need is good food and a warm bed, but some of them require extensive medical care to get them on the road to a happy home. All of our dogs are vetted, vaccinated, spay/neutered, and given full health exams, at the very least. Many of them need dental work, medication, and even surgery. Every dollar of adoption fees or donations goes right to paying for the care of these animals. If you’d like to be involved but can’t volunteer, please consider donating.
